Angel Island...
Being located along the coast of Northern California, the San Francisco Bay Area is widely known for its famous landmarks, chilly summer fog, steep rolling hills, it’s mix of Victorian and modern architecture, and of course, its long history of earthquakes. Foreigners are intrigued, while locals find it quite usual and take precaution; but no matter how prepared you may be, it’s safe to say no one was expecting the sudden shock that occurred one summer morning. An enormous quake shook the Bay Area and shifted California drastically. On-lookers watched in astonishment as they witnessed the coast as it practically broke into pieces, along with many of their hearts. Fires, tsunamis, gas leaks, crumbling buildings, and even the fall of their many great bridges left the cities in ruins. Many lives were lost that day, and after-shocks continued to sweep the area. The survivors were evacuated and the injured hospitalized. It was clear now, that the great bay was no more.
Deserted now, years later, San Francisco, one of the world’s most famous cities, has remained crushed and trampled; simply swept away from public, and left to rot in the cold.
Angel Island, located in the center of, what used to be the bay, has become refuge for many animals caught in the disaster. During the quake, the plates of the earth’s crust slid past each other, completely deforming the area, and practically cramming another local island, Alcatraz, into Angel Island. Aside from the small land masses, the once triumphant Golden Gate Bridge was also demolished and swept toward the center of the bay. Because of this, on low tides it is now vaguely possible to cross the half sunken bridge from Angel Island to the shore of SF, dangerously of course. Many local and feral canines and other critters discovered this not long after the quake, and thus brought them to the small island they now call home.
Of course it's not all peace and harmony among the canines... as fights broke out and dogs chose their sides, the island was practically split up. Now, almost eight years later, the conflicts have begun to die down. The population has grown since the first discoveries of the island. Many animals are still alive to remember the tradgedy, others born later and told stories of the big shake. While some try to keep to themselves and mind their own, others are just aching to start a fight. With food growing scarce and shelter harder to find, it's times like these you really 'oughta watch your back. Who can you trust?
